One of my favorite scriptures is the one today from Galatians 5:22-23
about the "fruit of the Spirit." I once heard a sermon in which the
pastor said that since "fruit" is singular, we should have all these
gifts once God's Spirit is living in us. That has always been a
challenge for me since I believe that God's Spirit IS working in me -
but I certainly don't have all those "fruits."
Words from today's reading that were especially comforting are: "The work I (God) am doing in you is hidden at first. But eventually blossoms will burst forth and abundant fruit will be born." I look forward to that time when I know without a doubt that I am filled with His Spirit.
I have mentioned recently about a class on "Silence and Solitude" that has helped me understand the importance of taking time with my Lord each and everyday. It is in that time that we ask for God's Presence, Guidance and Love. It is also because of that time that God's Spirit (and fruit) will blossom!
I pray that God will grant us patience as we wait for the time of "blossoming!" Please share your experiences of allowing God's Spirit to dwell in and through you.
