Jesus Calls Us

Today's reading reminds me of the old hymn, "Jesus Calls Us," which was written in the late 1800's. It's pretty amazing how "relevant" that the words are to today's world:
     Jesus calls us o'er the tumult
     of our life's wild, restless sea;
     Day by day His sweet voice soundeth,
     saying, "Christian, follow me!"

We hear from the media, emails, etc., about how our world/nation is in so much trouble. From the words in this hymn, it is evident that the author felt somewhat the same when he talked about "our Life's wild, restless sea." He makes it a point to say that the help comes from following our Lord and staying in His Presence just as Sarah Young does in today's devotional.

Another comment that particularly spoke to me in this reading is "Joy is independent of circumstances." How do you feel about such a profound statement? Do you have a story to share about you have have experienced this kind of joy in your life?
