Several years ago, the pastor at my church gave everyone a rubber
bracelet. He asked us to wear it all the time and to use it to test
ourselves for every time we complained. We were to change from one arm
to the other each time that we caught ourselves complaining about
anything. It was amazing how many times many of us found that we had to
move our bracelet from one arm to the other! I can't remember what the
bracelet had written on it but I feel quite sure it had to do with
thankfulness.
Today's scriptures and devotional make it clear that God does not want us to grumble/complain. Instead, he wants us to see the "Light of My (God's) Presence shining on all your circumstances" by keeeping a grateful attitude. Some of Sarah Young's words that especially touched me were, "Thankfulness is a safeguard against this deadly sin (grumbling)." I praise God that He has given us that safeguard!
During
this Lenten season, will you pray with me and join me in being
thankful in all things - and omit complaints from our vocabulary? The
beautiful hymn, "Give Thanks With a Grateful Heart"
is one that I will listen to regularly as a reminder of all that I
have to be thankful for - as I strive to develop a total "attitude of
gratitude."
