God's Riches vs. Worldly Riches

It took me many years to understand the meaning of today's scripture from Philippians 4:10. The words that I failed to focus on were "according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus." When I thought about God supplying my needs, I think it must have been based on hearing a TV preacher telling me that God wanted me to have a big fancy car!

Several years ago, I read a book called "When All You've Ever Wanted in Life Isn't Enough." The author discussed countless movie stars and super-wealthy people who expressed their unhappiness with life. - They were still longing for "something" but didn't know what! Today's devotional and scriptures makes it clear that our deepest longings can only be fulfilled through the wisdom and knowledge and Presence of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Today's reading and scriptures reminded me of a children's Bible song that we sang when I taught at a Christian school: "Silver and Gold Have I None." Another powerful related hymn is "I'd Rather Have Jesus." I praise God for giving me the richest of all blessings - His Most Precious Son, Jesus!
