Several years ago, the pastor at my church had a sermon on
"Complaining." In it, he talked about what it does to those around us,
and to us, when we spend a lot of time complaining. He gave us a simple
way to help stop our negativism by giving us a rubber bracelet; he asked
us to wear it for at least a month. Every time we caught ourselves
complaining, we were to take the bracelet off one arm and put it on the
other. You would be amazed at what it did to our congregation by helping
us become more aware of our negative comments. At the same time, we
began focusing more on God's Presence and Guidance and Love.
Today's
scripture from Ephesians is a powerful (but difficult) one that Sarah
Young says will help us get through the troubles in life: "Always giving thanks to God the father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus."
How do you remind yourself about complaining - if that is an issue with you?
