A friend once told me that her doctor said when we worry, it shows a lack of trust - that we have a choice to do one or the other! At first, that seemed like a rather harsh statement, but today's devotional says about the same thing. Additional scriptures that are very powerful on this topic are some of Jesus' words in the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 6:25-34 which ends with these words: "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
I have been unable to locate a song that I learned in Sunday School when I was quite young: "Why Worry When You Can Pray?" Does anyone have a link to the lyrics and/or music to that old tune - or another one that gives us a clear choice - worry or pray and trust?
Today's message reached deep in my heart! I was concerned about a speaking engagement this morning. The words seemed to leap off the page, igniting my trust in God' s presence. I relaxed, and the event went well. I believe excessive worry does block receptivity to God 's power in our lives.
