This is the Day the Lord Has Made!

Many years ago, I taught kindergarten in a Christian school. We were required to start each day with a brief time of music and prayer. I am not "musically talented" to say the least so this was quite a challenge! However. as the year progressed and the children began to learn the songs, it became a delightful part of the day. I still remember the first lines of one of our favorites:  "This is the day. This is the day, That the Lord hath made, That the Lord hath made. Let us rejoice. Let us rejoice, And be glad in it, And be glad in it.."

As I was reading today's devotional and scriptures, I began thinking about this song and wondered how much different life might be if we started every day with a song or scripture such as the one from Psalm118:24.

Do you have a favorite scripture or hymn with which your start the day in order to set the tone for the day?

  1. There is so much to this Psalm that one could meditate on it and come away with much to chew on. The hebrew word for "Lovingkindness" is the word "hesed"...a word deeply connected to God's covenant with Isreal and us..the hebrew scollars looked at this word in some respects the same way they viewed the name of God..with almost unspeakable reverance..hesed is the unlimited beyond comprehension "Intence" love God has for us..his heart revealed..as in the book of Romans (8:15) the deepest cry of a jewish child.."Abba Father...poppa..one of the deepest connections of dependance and love between father and child...Daddy,DA DA..father..all love and no harshness. David here decress and declares continually thru out this psalm the goodness of God,and, his protection, his instruction and makes reference to Christ as the "stone the builders rejected"(22)..interesting is this fact that verse 8 is the exact middle of the entire bible..and says "It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man"...pretty much sums up the whole message God and His Word..lastly..after all these declarations and proclaimations..David sandwiches in a request..24 This the day the Lord has made,we will rejoice and be glad in it.
25"Oh Lord DO SAVE,we BESEECH thee,O Lord,we BESEECH THEE....send NOW PROSPERITY!!(David, along with declaring God's goodness was also requesting expedient responce to his need for some cash, something we can all relate to) he ends this as he started it...."His Lovingkindness is everlasting."(29)..as history proves David got his prosperity in truckloads..his personal contribution to the building of the temple that his son Solomon would build would be in todays income worth billions..

    1. Thanks for your comment. I can tell you do lots of Bible study!
I hope you have time to listen to "I'll Never Let Go of Your Hand." I was not familiar with Don Francisco but I really like his rendition of this song.
